Opening times

I have availability on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 8 am and Thursday and Friday evenings for supervision.

I will visit schools or clinics where there is a suitable room free.

What to expect

Sessions usually take place at the same time in the same place each week to maintain consistency. The number of sessions are agreed at the beginning of the intervention and usually from 6 to 30 sessions. This may be reviewed during the course of treatment.

A range of play materials are provided including small world toys, sand, construction, role play, puppets and art materials.

After referral, parents and/or carers will first be invited to meet and discuss Play Therapy for their child. If parents/carers are supportive of the intervention, regular reviews can be scheduled during the course of therapy.

When your child is receiving Play Therapy

You can help your child when they are receiving Play Therapy in a number of ways:

  • Please be supportive of your child receiving Play Therapy, this will encourage him or her to be able make best use of their sessions.
  • Try to make sure that your child attends their session each week as consistency and continuity are very important in building a trusting relationship.
  • If your child is not able to make an appointment, please let me know as soon as possible by leaving a message on my phone, or by email.
  • Some of the play may be messy play with art materials, clay or water. I do provide aprons, but if you could provide one from home that would be very helpful.
  • Try and resist asking how the session has gone. The Play Therapy is confidential, but I will give feedback about concerns of which you need to be made aware.
  •  If your child does talk about the session, try just to listen attentively but not judge or probe with questions
  • As with other therapeutic interventions, sometimes behaviour can get worse before it gets better. Please feel free to contact me if you feel uncertain about the best way to deal with it.
  •  If you think further issues come up during the week, please leave a message for me via email.
